On 2 May 2008 Oy Minerit Ab changes name to Cembrit Oy.
The launch of the new, common company name throughout the Group is the logical step in a series of global branding strategic moves intended to strengthen our profile and create a platform from which we can work on expanding the European market for fibre cement building materials. Each market will benefit from the others through shared knowledge, technologies, products and services
The name Cembrit derives from the association to the Cimbrians. The Cimbrians were a nomadic Celtic tribe who in ancient sources are reported to come from Cembrit’s home territory of northern Jutland in Denmark. From their native soil, this adventurous people set out in Europe with an enormous zest for life and adventure, and at one point in history, they actually threatened the Roman Empire. Like the Cimbrians you can say that Cembrit is already wide spread across Europe and our desire for more adventure is also strong. Thus, Cembrit was the natural choice.
